Overtaken by the Satsui no Hadou
Stoic, calculating, and always looking to improve his abilities, Ryu is a former Street Fighter champion. Along with Ken Masters, he was trained by Gouken in the Shotokan martial art. At a young age, he was challenged by Akuma to accept this Satsui no Hadou, or the "Murderous Intent" of the Shotokan discipline, but Ryu rejected this notion, deciding to better himself through pure methods. He entered the first World Warrior tournament, which he won by defeating Sagat, scarring the Muay Thai god's chest with a mighty Shoryuken.
Ryu was targeted by M. Bison, who put on the second World Warrior tournament to acquire Ryu and use his body for nefarious deeds. Ryu overcame Bison.
In the third World Warrior tournament, Ryu was eliminated by Oro. Realizing he still had much to learn, Ryu took Oro as his new sensei.
2D Fighters[]
Ryu was in the inaugural HTTT. In the first round, he defeated Ryo Sakazaki, followed by defeating Gill in round 2, and Kyo Kusanagi in round 3. In round 4, Ryu was defeated by Dan Hibiki.
2-Player Duos[]
In the opening round, the Shotokan Masters Ryu & Ken defeated Elf & Fighter, before being stomped by Earthworm Jim and Snott in round 2.
3D Fighters[]
In the first round, Ryu tied against fellow Street Fighter, C. Viper, eliminating them both.
